Psychosis in the Drug Rehabilitation Context

Psychosis in the Drug Rehabilitation Context

Substance-induced psychosis is a loss of touch from reality triggered or induced by the use of a psychoactive substance. Often a psychotic episode is only recognised when a person presents with the hallmark or tell-tale symptoms of the disorder, which are delusions and hallucinations. Treatment interventions for substance induced psychosis broadly consist of psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and social support. Importantly, the combination of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology is more likely to improve the effectiveness of treatment outcomes.
